[EXCLUSIVE] Interview with Wonho

To kick off Wonho's Stay Awake Tour in Europe. Wonho took some time out of his busy schedule to answer some of our questions. Besides our own questions we headed over to our Instagram posted a story asking our community: "If you could ask Wonho one thing what would it be?" After having received over more than 200+ responses we picked seven to be sent over to Wonho.

THE INTERVIEW

You’ve just finished the Latin America part of your tour and are about to start the European leg. How are you feeling at this point in the journey?

Wonho "I gained so much energy during the Latin America tour. In every city, the fans gave me such warm cheers and support, and thanks to that I was able to keep going without feeling tired. Since it’s been a while since my last European tour in 2022, I’m even more excited to finally meet my fans here again."

If you could pick two songs to represent your journey, one from your recent work and one from your earlier days. What would they be, and why?

Wonho "From my recent work, I would choose Better Than Me. It was the pre-release single from my upcoming album, and I think it represents how my music is expanding in a new direction. From my early days, I would pick Open Mind. As my solo debut track, it symbolized my very first step as a solo artist, so it holds a special meaning for me."

When fans listen to your music, what do you hope they feel or take away from it?

Wonho "I don’t want people to feel pressured to take away any particular message when listening to my music. I just hope they can enjoy it comfortably in their own way. For some, it might bring comfort; for others, it might give strength. As long as they can naturally connect with the emotions that fit them, that’s more than enough for me."

Which song do you personally love performing the most, and what makes it special for you on stage?

Wonho "It’s hard to choose just one song, but during every show, the track that fans enjoy the most in that moment always becomes the most special one for me. Sharing that energy together on stage makes each song feel brand new."

Now that your tour in Europe has kicked off, what are some of the biggest differences you notice as a performer among the fans?

Wonho "Fans everywhere are passionate, but I feel that European fans especially enjoy the music in a very free-spirited way. The way they dance naturally and react wholeheartedly during the concerts really inspires me as a performer."

If you could pick any location on the planet, what would be your dream spot to film a music video?

Wonho "Someday, I’d love to film a music video in a breathtaking natural setting. For example, under the northern lights in Iceland or somewhere exotic where the desert meets the sea. I think those landscapes, combined with music, could capture a truly surreal moment."

If you could send one of your songs into space for aliens to hear, which one would you choose and why? By carloaarts2.0

Wonho "If I could send one of my songs into space, I’d choose Open Mind. It symbolizes new beginnings and possibilities, and the lyrics and vibe feel a bit like saying, “Welcome to our world,” which I think would be fitting for aliens too."

Your last concerts in Europe were back in 2022 with tour stops in a total of 3 countries: how does it feel to be back after 3 years and being able to visit Wenee in a total of 8 countries this time? By mariiivdb

Wonho "Visiting eight countries this time feels very special. I’m so happy to finally meet more fans after such a long wait, and I’ve been dreaming about this moment for a long time too."

If you weren’t a Kpop Idol, what would you want to be? By diannemac4

Wonho "If I hadn’t become a K-pop idol, I might have been a taekwondo athlete or a swimmer, if not for injuries. Or maybe something simple — like running a small fruit shop in my neighborhood."

What fictional character do you identify with the most? By yen.anamaria

Wonho "Fans have often compared me to many different animation characters, so it’s hard to choose just one. There are so many that I can relate to in different ways."

What is your favourite exercise to do in the gym? By laurasstrainx

Wonho "I don’t really have a favorite workout at the gym. I see it more as part of a routine I need to maintain for my health, rather than something I truly enjoy. But I do love being outdoors, like running, cycling, or taking walks while enjoying nature."

How do you choose which songs to include in your tour setlist? By wenee_93

Wonho "When I put together a setlist, I usually start with the new songs I want to perform. Then I think about which tracks fit well with those and which ones fans would most like to see, and I build the combinations from there."

What song do you want to sing together with WENEE the most? By myphilo.sofi

Wonho "I’d love to sing every song together with my fans, but if I had to choose one, it would be WENEED. Since it was written for them, the song feels complete only when it’s sung together with WENEE."
