THE INTERVIEW
__________________________________________________________________________________
How would you describe Can't Be Blue's music in 3 words?
Honest, melancholic, regretful.
To be able to be openers for Ateez at Rock In Roma — how do you feel as a band at this stage of your career?
It feels like a real turning point — proof that the years of small stages and steady work are leading somewhere bigger. We're taking it as motivation, not pressure.
Which other cities would you like to perform in Europe if you could do a Europe tour in the future?
Berlin, London, Paris — and honestly, wherever people want to have us. We'd love to explore cities we don't know yet too.
Congratulations on your latest album, [can't be blue]. This album is named after the band itself — in what aspects does it represent your musical identity?
Naming the album after ourselves felt right because these songs are the most complete picture yet of who we are, musically and personally. It's not a concept album; it's just us. It also happened to come out on our second debut anniversary, so in a way it feels like a turning point — the album where our "can't be blue" colors really solidified. I think what comes next will probably lean even further into that "blue" feeling.
In an ever-changing industry, how do you make sure your group's core identity stays authentic?
Honestly, we try a lot of different sounds and keep experimenting. That's how we found our way musically, and two years in, it's become a lot clearer what kind of music we should be making and how we want to connect with you through it.
How do you balance the desire to try new musical trends with maintaining your signature group sound?
There's a lot we'd like to try — folk, hyperpop, techno, whatever's trending right now. But we always try to stay focused on what only a band can do: real instruments, honest lyrics. We find some middle ground there, and through this summer we're planning to really dig into the sounds we've been wanting to try.
What professional advice would Dahyun give to the rookie version of Can't Be Blue?
Dahyun: Trust the process more, and worry less about getting everything perfect right away.
When Hwuiwon looks back at his career 10 years from now, what does he want the band and his career as bassist to be remembered for?
Hwuiwon: As a bassist who made the songs feel steady and honest, and as part of a band that stayed true to itself the whole way.
If Chaehyun wouldn't play guitar, what other instrument or position would he like in the band?
Chaehyun: Hmm... I think I'd still end up on guitar. I'm just a guitar lover at heart.
Daehun joined Can't Be Blue later — what has he learned from other members during practice and performances?
Daehun: Patience and trust — learning to read the other members' cues took time, but it made him a better musician and bandmate.
Between drums, guitar, and piano, which did Dohun like best when he was younger?
Dohun: Piano. I actually majored in jazz piano up through middle school, and I think I've always loved how a melody can flow so smoothly.
What can fans look forward to in the second half of 2026 from Can't Be Blue?
We're actually previewing a brand-new song live for the first time at Rock in Roma — a little early after the album, but we didn't want to wait too long. Beyond that, more international shows and continued momentum from the album.
What is a personal non-music goal you have for 2026?
Staying healthy and present through a busy year — it's easy to lose track of that when everything moves fast.
Fan question (@yla_jaja): Which song in your discography is your personal favorite?
It kind of changes every time we release something new — whatever the newest song is tends to become the favorite for a while. Right now it's "blue daisy," "can't love," and "should be you."
Fan question (@keonib_): Besides Han, are there other artists you want to collaborate with?
We're open to a wide range of artists — we're drawn to people whose music feels emotionally honest, regardless of genre.
