Last October 19th, Barcelona welcomed cotoba in a small but cozy venue, which allowed the band to deliver their unique sound to all the attendees. With extraordinary sound equipment, the night was set off to be unforgettable for any music fanatic.
Both promoters and venue made sure that everyone in Sala Vol was comfortable from the beginning to the end of the event. The organization was great, and fans could join the night without any issues. It was an almost sold out concert, which was evident from the energy that was shared between the four walls of the venue. The atmosphere was comfortable, and it was easy to be part of the mutual love for music for those who were there.
The opening act was a catalan musician that mixes the sound of his guitar and synthesizer to create music from out of of this world. Relaxing, but with a strong message, anyone who didn't know thëm yet was surprised by his ability with each note, beat and sound, and his album El Dolor La Norma is only an example of it.
When cotoba came out, the energy kicked off from the beginning. With two guitars, a bass and a set of drums, the musicians performed and outstanding concert with their surprising sound. Math rock is known by their enthusiast for having a complex rhythm and non-standard meter, frequently changing the signatures, and the band amazed every attendee with it.
Dyon Joo's energy and stamina were amazing. Dancing, jumping, singing and playing the guitar, she matched the crowd's spirit without losing a beat. Dafne's riffs complemented it well, leaving a great impression to the fans. Hyerim's bass delivered the rhythm along with Marker's drums, and it was the four of them and the mix of their individual sounds that created unforgettable songs.
Dyon Joo also showed attendees the Spanish she has learned in a year - which allowed her to interact and connect better with the crowd. In fact, Dafne, the guitarist, also learned some Spanish that was shared that night, but even with language barrier the four members were able to send their message with their vocals, strings and drums. From reyn to syhi, and up until melon, they didn't stop for a second, and the crowd cheered for them on every song.
The band was also amazingly kind and spent some time with fans taking photos and singing autographs, and sharing their passion for music and reviews from the concert. They made sure everyone left happy and with their heart full of indelible songs.
Being outstanding musicians, if you are a music lover, or if you just want to discover this subgenre of indie rock, you should definitely check the band and go to their next stops of the tour!
