[Concert Recap] JUNNY in Helsinki

October 1st brought JUNNY and his [null] EUROPE TOUR to Finland and as the sun started to set, Ääniwalli and Junniverse welcomed him to Helsinki.

The space quickly filled with his (often sultry) soulful r’n’b beats, heavenly vocals, sexy moves and cheering, dancing fans who were clearly having a great time. Time to get sexy, time to get real!

The show started with ‘Passion, Pain & Pleasure’, moving to ‘SOUR’ before JUNNY said a few words to the crowd, expressing his happiness to be performing in Finland and Helsinki for the first time. Apparently after getting oﬀ the plane he told everyone to breathe a lot, since the air was so very clean. He also wanted to try some traditional Finnish foods after enjoying good Thai and Japanese dishes and asked the crowd for recommendations, which ended up being lohikeitto (salmon soup). I really hope he got to try it and enjoyed it!

During the night JUNNY performed almost all the songs from his newest album “null”, and he mentioned how he first was nervous to perform the tracks live for the first time. He also wanted to include almost everything to the setlist, otherwise the fans wouldn’t be satisfied. He also talked about how the process of recording some of the songs were, giving personal insight to his work.

We also got to hear some older tracks, including one of his first songs and personal favourites ‘Thank You’ and also ‘Not About You’, before which JUNNY asked the crowd to make some noise so his ex (who mistakenly thought his songs were about her) could hear it wherever she was.

Songs like ‘TASTE’, ‘Provider’, ‘Color Me’ and ‘Here We Go Again’ invited everyone to dance, while ‘By My Side’ and ‘limbo’ got the crowd enjoying his beautiful vocals.

JUNNY shared the stage with DJ DAUL, who he has been touring with for couple years now. He also performed quite a few songs with features on them, like ‘AURA’ feat. pH-1, ’RUSH’ feat. BOBBY and ‘Optimist’ feat. Blase, impressively rapping the featured parts.

When the night started to come to an end, after taking couple pictures with the crowd, JUNNY wrapped a Finnish flag (adorned with fans’ messages and names) around his shoulders and sat down to slow down and perform the last two songs: ‘Weight of Time’ and ‘Next to Me’. During Weight of Time’s last “I feel lost” you could hear a pin drop, the crowd was so immersed in the performance.

Luckily we got to enjoy a little bit more time with JUNNY as he took the stage again for the encore songs ‘figure8’ and ‘Daylight’, during which the lights of everyone’s phones lit up the space. Lastly, it was time for the second round of ‘INVITATION’, marking the end to a great and fun night.

Seeing everyone dancing, waving their hands and enjoying the show mainly without recording everything with their phones was truly a treat.
